Awe-Struck Wonder

Tis’ the season!!

Right now we’re in the thick of the all the Christmas festivities that come with the preparation for the big day. I personally love all the music, cards, lights, homemade treats and fun times together. It’s a great way to get ready for the ultimate celebration on December 25: the birth of the Savior.

The Savior–yes, the Messiah, the Lord–has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! Luke 2:11 (NLT)

I marvel a fresh at the way in which our Lord came down to earth to save His own which were lost. He did not come in pomp or glory, but rather He chose a stable, a manger for His bed and most likely hay on which to rest His head.

Can you imagine the hearts of the shepherds on that first Christmas day? After years of oppression and discouragement to receive such news that the Savior had finally arrived?! My heart can’t even begin to fathom what they felt.

Wise men traveled far and wide to give gifts to Jesus Christ; angels warned His parents to keep Him safe; a prophetess and priest met with Mary and Joseph to confirm what Mary already knew in her heart to be true. All these signs and wonders must have been astounding for the people living over 2,000 years ago.

Today these signs and wonders still ring true. Our hearts are still filled with the awe-struck wonder of the shepherds. So when all the festivities begin to feel a bit overwhelming, or the Christmas cards to be sent start to pile up, or your Christmas shopping list seems to grow longer and the crowds get bigger, remember this one thing:

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. “This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:10-12

Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas!

Today is the release of Kirk Cameron’s new film Saving Christmas! For two weeks only Cameron’s film will be featured in select theater’s across America! For more information on where to find a theater playing the movie nearest you, head on over to!

Cameron has also been out promoting his new film and a friend of mine shared with me a fabulous article in which Cameron defends Christmas, it’s traditions and Santa Claus.

“I love Christmas, I’m a Christian and I love Christmas,” he immediately assured, “When I write the date on a check every time I write 2014 that should remind me that something very important happened 2014 years ago and we still record time today by that first Christmas. That’s what separates AD from BC.

“The actor said Christians could spread the message of Christ’s birthday by inviting friends and neighbors into their Christmas celebrations. “Everyone loves the guy on the block, or the mom on the block that invites people over for a barbeque or a party. At Christmas time open your doors and invite your neighbors into the story that you’re celebrating. The story of this king and his kingdom and tell them how they’re invited to be part of the kingdom as well,” he advised, “Put up your nativity, put up your Christmas tree, take a picture with Santa and when you show people that picture then share with them the story of the real Saint Nicholas.”
